  • Register

Before you can edit or add pages, you must create an account by clicking the link at the top right of every page.

  • To edit a page

Click on the edit tab at the top of the page you want to change and simply type, delete or change the words you want to edit. You can even edit this page, but maybe you'd prefer to experiment in the sandbox to get a feel for this. Once you are happy with adding/changing plain text, you can look at the edit tabs of other pages to see how the formatting works.

  • To create a new page

First make sure the page you want has not already been created by searching for it using the search box in the sidebar. If you get a message that says "There is no page titled ":Your new page". You can create this page." then you can do exactly that by clicking on the red words 'create this page'.

Alternatively, when editing a current page, if you put two square brackets around any word, it will automatically link to the page whose title is that word. If no such page exists, the link will be red and you can create the page by simply clicking on the red link. Again, you can experiment with this in the sandbox.

General

There are many pages of help on MetaWikiPedia:Help. It is a very good idea to become familiar with the information on that site.

Syntax - or - What Do I Write

The easiest way to find out what to write in 'wiki-text' is to find an example of what you want to do somewhere else on the wiki. However a few pointers are:

  • Use the buttons at the top of the box when you are editing a page.
  • To link to another page, just put double square brackets around the name of the page you want to link to.
  • If you want to create a new page, then do one of the following:
    • Type the name of the page in the search box, if it doesn't already exist you will be asked if you want to create the page.
    • Put the name of the page you want to create in a suitable place on another page (e.g. if you want to write about a place to visit in Cambridgeshire, then go to the Cambridgeshire page and add the name of the place to visit onto that page. If you put the name in double square brackets, then a link is automatically created.

A lot of content is put into Categories for easy listing in category pages.
